McDaniels lied about Marshall

Just reported by Sandy Clough on 104.3 the Fan No BS Post Game Report - Josh McDaniels told the Denver media that Marshall's benching had nothing to do with Marshall having missed a treatment session. However, the next day McDaniels talked to Ed WErner of ESPN and said that the benching was primarily due to Marshall missing a session.

McDaniels lied to the Denver meda and then went to the national media to try and spin the story to his advantage.

McDaniels also never took the time to tell Tony Scheffler face to face why he was being demoted to the scout team.

As Sandy Clough astutely noted, McDaniels seems to have been trying to create some scapegoats for the Broncos massive collapse.

Since Scheffler and Marshall didn't play, I am not sure who McDaniels will blame for the beating the Broncos just took against the Chiefs. Maybe that is why he allowed Peyton Hillis to return kicks.

  4. Hey genius, it's just like a drunken moron moderator who defends a primadonna wide reciever, who WHICH YOU FORGOT TO REPORT, was called out not just by McDaniels, but by ALL THE TEAM CAPTAINS..

funny how you conviently left that bit of information out isnt it.

So you'd take A woman beater who won the Broncos maybe, MAYBE 1 extra game over a head coach with 3super bowls, Champ Bailey, Daniel Graham, Kyle Orton, Brian Dawkins and DJ Williams???

Of course you would, because everyone knows a 1 premiere wide reciever ALWAYS wins Super Bowls, just ask Larry Fitzgerald..oh wait..

Next time report the facts before you call for a coaches head..You know absolutely jack crap about jack crap genius.

I can't wait to see what you change the title of this blog to next week, than the week after.

Hows that for an attack. Go have another beer.

Because average at best tight ends who have acconplished nothing of note in their career except bitching to the media about his boyfriend being traded deserve anything.

  6. I nominate Kasabian for the Josh McDaniels fan of the year. Kasabian's knowledge of football, websites, and blogs surpasses anybody elses. He cleverly notes that Josh McDaniels has won three super bowls, even though nobody would count those as his, they are Belichick's. All McDaniels has done is preside over a 6-0 start which ended in an 8-8 season and no playoff appearance. He has also presided in a terrible draft, the alienation of the team's best players and fan base, and weaving a web of lies.

    Congratulations Kasabian for this award!

PS - So I guess we'll be taking Gary Kubiak's super bowl ring away now too..after all..he was only John Elways co-ordinator, and the Broncos only won one playoff game after they BOTH left huh??

  10. Oracle, Kubiak is not a super bowl winning head coach either. I just don't give as much weight to super bowl rings won by assistants. Look at all of the New England super bowl winning assistants who have been terrible head coaches...

    "McDaniels LIED to Marshall"

What if Marshall told McDaniels to go F*$k himself in front of the team? what then?

You haven absolutely NO FACTS to this situation..your arguement boils down to "liar liar pants on fire"

the Denver post article says the veteran leaders told McDaniels to take a hard line with accountability..

Which he did...that means no screwing around PERIOD. You tell me who the reliable source is in this case..the Head coach of a football team or a wide reciever with A DOCUMENTED HISTORY of attitude problems?

    Answer me that

  14. kasabian, what the hell are you talking about? Everybody has the right to analize and change idea. Every Bronco fan was upset to see our great coach Shanahan fired and more over when this guy threw over our franchise qb. After 6 wins in a row many of us thought we're wrong about this guy. But with cold mind we can say without doubts that all the 8 wins of the season were on the defense until the old veteran have had the strenght. Anyway, all season the offense was horrible, no running play at all even if Moreno is a good player, but only because of the genius McDaniels f::ing playbook. Only a phenom like Brandon Marshall could make an awful player like Orton a qb. And this was the new engalnd offensive genius? Be sure with Brady Welker Moss and that O Line also my grandma could be a great offensive coordinator.

  15. Hi fellow, i'm a huge Italian Bronco fan.
I follow your blog since the beginning and i've quite always been of your same idea. I wanna only say that this is the worst coach the Broncos have had since Wade Phillips. The defense after a nice start was the same awful thing of the last year especially on the run.
He supposed to be a great offensive mind. OK the Broncos had the best offense in the NFL last year, he threw out Jay Cutler to bring this awful qb who was a backup for 3 years. He ruined everything with his feud with Jay, Marshall Scheffler and Hillis, he undervalued a guy like Moreno. Always useless play action and five wideout with short passes.
We must also realize that the best player of our team are old, and he never started a rebuilding project.
I hope and pray that Mr Bowlen, fires immediatly this ignorant and bring back our Mike Shanahan.
Thanks for your blog, and go Broncos anyway.

  17. This has all the earmarks of the Shanahan era when it came to defensive coordinators.

Bill Williams reported the team captains wanted McD to "get tough" on players right before the whole Marshall deal blew up.

The locker room is divided like it was with Cutler under Shanahan (That got oopsed out by Nate Jackson on the Fan FM for those who didn't know.)

I still support the positives that McD brought in that Shanahan IN NO WAY could have, namely Mike Nolan, who really did a good job bring in talent and working the best he could with the line he had.

However, the negatives and suspect decisions McD has done this season are too numerous to word in one post. I will say this, a coach is SUPPOSE TO get the BEST out of players he has regardless of who they once played for.

In the case of Marshall it doesn't look good for McDaniels HOWEVER, it is Marshall and, what could have happened BEHIND close doors is anybodies guess. For other players like Royal, Scheffler, Stokely, Hillis and yes Orton I think their LACK of play rests squarely on the coach and a GREAT coach gets the best from ALL his players.

I think there needs to be some accountability on this blog.

I'm not a big fan of Sandy Clough but in the name accurate reporting... The Denver Post clarified McDaniels was correct when he stated Marshall was NOT benched for MISSING his treatment but rather he was benched after being late for it. ESPN (Ed Werner) backs that report up 100% in bold letters they headline..."Marshall Benched After Being Late For Session"

You can click on both links and see for yourself they're essentially the same story on what McDaniels said.

  20. I went to the game yesterday... I still feel depressed... what a F'n weird season... a F'd up season... Shanny is off to the Redskins... Is McMeatball the answer? One more year? At least the Broncos get the Bears first round pick. Let's hope McMeatball doesn't F that up too! I think I put too much life energy into my Broncos. BLAH!

  21. josh mcdaniels wants the broncos with his guys. he treats the shanahan guy's bad so he can get rid of them. The problem is the best broncos are shanahan guy's exept brian dawkins. Fire josh mcdaniels and hire Leslie Frazier how they should of hired in the first place. KEEP #15 BRANDON MARSHALL the denver broncos BEST PLAYER.

  22. Kyle Orton Fan... take a look at the last paragraph of the Denver Post article again:
"When asked specifically whether Marshall had missed treatment when asked about it during his press conference Friday, McDaniels said, "no." Which was true, although McDaniels did not volunteer the information that Marshall was late."

This confirms what Sandy Clough - the best voice in Denver Sports Radio by far, in my opinion - reported was correct. By not clarifying that Marshall was benched for being late during that question, he was basically lying by omission. Why is he playing these games? Does the Denver media have to craft very specific and precise questions to pin McDaniels down on things?

  23. You Suck, Josh McDaniels!
    ReplyDelete
  24. Honestly, I think Orton is pretty underrated. Sure, he throws picks sometimes and makes some bad decisions...but have you seen Cutler play? Honestly, I think he's an improvement. Plus, give him a little time.

As for McDaniels...I don't know what he's doing. Things were fine when we were 6-0 but all of a sudden shit hits the fan and now he's being a drama queen. He's not Belichick but he thinks he is and ergo makes dumb decisions like benching his star player and a solid TE for no real reason during a crucial game with playoff implications. Mike Shanahan should not have been fired.
I live in the DC area and there is news that Shanahan might be hired by that pig Snyder for the Redskins...I don't know whether to be appalled or excited. I just hope Denver can get it together next year.

  26. FIRE HIM NOW!!!
    FIRE HIM YESTERDAY!!!

Let's first examine McNugget's poor player personel moves:

1-Wanting to trade Cutler for Matt
Cassel and then lying about it...
Cassel went 3-12 as a starter in
    2009. This guy was McNugget's
    "FRANCHISE" Quarterback!!!!!!!!
    2-The Cutler for Orton trade.......
It's endless fun moving down the
field one 3-yd. pass at a time!!!
If you want your QB to "manage"
the game, you will "manage" to
    miss the playoffs every year.
Your QB sometimes needs to WIN
the game for you, not manage it.
    In today's NFL, a big-arm QB is
    a priority--the threat of the
    deep ball is a MUST!!!
3-The signing of QB Chris Simms....
Let's face it, if his last name
wasn't Simms, he'd be pumping gas
    somewhere. His signing assured
that nobody would call for the
benching of "Orton here's a who".
If you want people to tolerate a
mediocre starting QB, you need to
surround him with an even more
    inept backup, and McDummy did!!!!
4-Using the 12th overall pick in
the draft to take RB-Knowshon or
    should I say Know"gain" Moreno...
Can this guy EVER get a 1st down
on 3rd and 1 or 2?? That question
    was rhetorical, because we all
know that he is too busy losing a
critical fumble to gain a yard!!!
    5-The trading of our '10 1st-round
pick to Seattle for the 37th pick
    in the '09 draft................
With this pick, he drafted CB
    Alphonso Smith. Smith played very
    little. Some nickel package, some
    dime package, some kick returns.
If you are going to WASTE a 1st-
round pick for the 37th pick, the
player you choose must be a great
    talent with an IMMEDIATE impact!!
    6-The signing of LaMont Jordan.....
    I'd rather have Lamont Sanford!!
    Jordan's just another runner that
    can't gain a yard on 3rd & short.
We had Peyton Hillis, thus, had
need at all for LaMont Jordan!!!!
    7-Releasing 23-yr. old punter Brett
Kern and signing 37-yr. old Mitch
    "eat another" Berger.............
Kern was signed by Tennessee, and
went on to have a 41.4 NET AVG.on
    37 punts. Berger had a 36.3 net @
Balt., 33.4 net vs. Pitt., 35.3
net vs. Oak., and 32.4 net @ Phi.
    These were all crucial LOSSES!!!!

These moves are just a sampling of
    "the genius" of Josh McDummy.

He was clearly intent on ridding the Broncos of any remnants of the
    Shanahan era.

One of the few things on this team
that did not need fixing was the
    offense, so, McDummy immediately
    dismantled it. GREAT MOVE!!!!!!!!!
    This offensive wizard guided the
    ship to a whopping 326 points, 20th
    in the league.

Finally, the only reason McDummy got the job in the first place, was
because he came from the Belichick
    coaching tree. Well, let's examine
the fruit this tree has yielded.
    Charlie Weis 35-27 (Fired-N.Dame).,
    Romeo Crennel 24-40 (Fired-Clev.).,
    Nick Saban 15-17 (Fired-Miami).,
    Eric Mangini 28-36 (w/NYJ & Cle.).,
    Jim Schwartz 2-14 (with Detroit).,
    and McDummy 8-8 (with Denver)......
Let's see, that's an NFL record of
    77-115. WOW, a .401 winning pct.!!!

This is one tree that needs to be
chopped down IMMEDIATELY because all it seems to produce is a large
    abundance of rotten fruit!!!!!!!!

  27. Shadow i respect your opinion but i totally disagree. Orton played in a short pass system with a very good offensive line a real go to guy and some other good receivers and made a bad season, Cutler in Chicago made a bad season played with no serious WR, with a terrible OLine, especially ORlando Pace who has been a great player but now it's time for him to retire. The Broncos offense was one of the best last year and this year with Moreno an Cutler together it would be much better. With our Mike Shanahan, the only things to do was rebuild the defense around Dumervil and DJ Williams with young talents. We brought Goodman Dawkins and Davis, they're very good this year, but they're 32 and more and we also have Champ at 32. What kind of project was that? Get rid of the franchise qb and the go to guy and take old players that can play well for 2 season if we're lucky.
McDaniels has no idea of what is a team. I repeat, also my grandma could be a good offensive coordinator with Brady Moss Welker and that OLine.

  29. Well, I think that yeah Orton has his problems but if we give him some time he'll show his true colors. The main problem he has is throwing too much to Brandon Marshall, not that I don't love the guy, but now you take him out of the game and Orton doesn't know what to do with the ball and throws far far too many interceptions. Maybe I just don't like Jay Cutler, but regardless, the point remains--McDaniels doesn't know what he's doing.

    LPM,

Sandy Claugh never said anything about McD lying that I've been hearing. Maybe I missed something earlier.

Josh McDaniels is being called out by EVERYONE including claugh for questioning Marshalls toughness.

It's also been the consensus among players that Marshall was exaggerating the hammy due to 'contractual' reasons.

IMO it's one of those deals where two wrongs make for a real F'ed up situation in Denver.
