Dear Mr. Bowlen,
I can understand why you may have felt it was time to get rid of Mike Shanahan, even though he is clearly a top coach is this league. However, your hiring of Josh McDaniels has already show itself to be an unmitigated catastrophe. He has shown ineptitude at dealing with the cornerstone of the franchise, Jay Cutler, and you need to get rid of him now before he causes more damage.
First, there simply have not been many success stories of coaches hired from New England, despite how enticing they may seems. This young pup with no experience is already well on his way to joining Crennel, Mangini, Weiss, and others who failed in their next coaching job after being highly touted from New England.
Second, Josh McDaniels judgment in wanting to replace Jay Cutler with Matt Cassel was atrocious and does not bode well for future personnel decisions. He may have been comfortable with Cassel, but Cassel hit the lottery in being surrounded by an incredible team in New England. Rising tides lift all boats; but in Kansas City, where the tide is quite low, Cassel will be a bust. Jay Cutler is a top 5 talent at the QB position in the NFL.
Third, after his horrible lapse in judgment to try and replace Jay Cutler, Josh McDaniels damage control has been historically bad. He has lost all respect of his key player and is losing control of the Franchise and turning the Denver Broncos into a league joke.
You shouldn't have turned the keys to the Ferrari to a kid who barely has his learner's permit. You should be able to see that mistake now and fix it as fast as you can. McDaniels is ill-equipped to handle his job. And, there is no evidence he is even a good football coach. Like Cassel, Josh McDaniels simply benefitted from rising tides in New England.
Please fire Josh McDaniels immediately and hire anybody you can for next season after which you should go after a real coach (Bill Cowher) who can lead the Denver Broncos back to the Super Bowl.
Sincerely,
Denver Broncos Fan (DBF)
